Fanboy Titlecards...

Various titlecards from second season of Fanboy & ChumChum. The concepts for these are roughed out by superstar artists, Eddie Trigueros and Eric Robles. All I had to do was dust 'em with color.

I also recently worked on two Fanboy and ChunChum books for Simon & Shuster (Many thanks to Mr.Robles for throwing them my way). For those interested, they should be available for purchase on Amazon in late February. Here's the cover from the second book. When the date gets closer, I'll post up a couple of images from the interiors. Cheers!

Kung Fu Panda: Scorpion

A sneak peek of Nick's "Kung Fu Panda and the Legend of Awesomeness" aired a few weeks ago and I hear Scorpion was the featured character, so I'm thinking it's ok now to post up a few of her designs.

Awhile back, I was fortunate enough to do some freelance design on KFP. The assignment was to design two of the characters that were part of the evil version of the Furious Five. As everyone knows, Nico Marlett is a master designer, and an incredibly tough act to follow, so although I was pretty excited and honored to be able to help out, it was a daunting task. The first character we tackled was Scorpion. Here are some of the designs I submitted.

A few head explorations. She was supposed to be a duplicitous deceptive character, so the idea of multiple eyes was played around with.
In the end, I'm not sure if any of these got used for the final character in the show, but I had a great time playing around with her design. Once a few more of the episodes air, I'll post up some of the designs from the other character I got the chance to work on. Thanks for swinging by!

The bulk of the Ricky Gervais shows have aired now, so it should be safe to post some more work. Most of these are from random episodes. Season two had some awesome board artists, so all these scenes are based off their panels (you can still see some of their drawings ghosted in the bg). With the hard work done, I get the pure candy of just designing the characters in the scene. One of my favorites scenes was in the bar fight episode. Violence is always exciting to draw and as a fustrated artist.....very satisfying.

Jimmy Two Shoes Storyboard

About a year ago, an opportunity opened up for an interstial storyboard on Jimmy (Thanks, Sean Scott!). It had been awhile since I had done a board so I took a shot at it. We had a lot of great board guys on Jimmy so it was an intimidating task. Looking back at it now, I see tons of mistakes and ugly sterile drawings , but it was still fun to do at the time....and it sparked my interest in boarding again. Anyways, hope you guys find something funny to laugh at in there.

Ricky Gervais Show: Season 02

I was fortunate enough to be invited back again this season, and it was a total blast working under the tutelage of design superstar, Bryan Arnett. Dear internet,

The first few episodes of the second season of Jimmy Two Shoes have aired on Teletoon now, so I figured it's safe to start sharing some of the work I've done in the last year. Most of these designs are pretty random, so hopefully you guys still enjoy them :)

First up, the giant Lava Beast from Spring Broke:

Disney liked his design, so we got to use him in one of the promotional images for the show.

Some townsfolk from the zombie episode where everyone is turned into killer Pickles...

Voltron Jimmy Robot! He's only in there for a brief moment in Spring Broke, but it would have been fun to have a full episode about him. Maybe in season three, Ackland ;)

Hey folks! Sorry about the long break in posting. Things have been pretty busy around the Lambey household the last few months. My wife and I just had our little baby boy, Cohen. He's completely amazing and eats up every spare minute I have. We're really digging our time together.

On the work side of things, we getting closer to wrapping up design on the second season of Jimmy Two Shoes. Lots of great stuff coming your way in the fall. Although I'm not able to post any of the final designs till the show airs, here's one of the recent titlecards and a few odd rejected/unused/cut designs. Hope you guys like em!

What the Be-geeze? I won an EMMY!

Can canadians even win one of those?? Apparently so.....I found out yesterday that I've won an Emmy for character design on Nickelodeon's Fanboy and Chum Chum. A huge congrats to my design amigo, Caesar Martinez who also won for his fantastic background design on the show.

Although these are individual awards, the win is really for everyone on the show and definitely a testament to it's quality. I'd definitely like to thank show creator, Eric Robles for taking a chance on the canuck. Fanboy was my first 3d show, and still Eric was trusting enough to let me stumble around, experiment, and take lots of creative chances in the world he created. Being a badass designer himself, I know it had to have been hard to let someone play around with your favorite toys in the backyard. My hats of to you, sir!!

Ricky Gervais Show Premiere

Set your tivos, folks! I just got an email reminder from a friend that the Ricky Gervais show is premiering tomorrow night on HBO. It's from the folks at Wild Brain Animation in LA, animated by many of the superstars from the Foster's crew, and directed by none other than the super talented, Craig Kellman.

I don't know how it happened but I was lucky enough to get the opportunity to do some freelance design on the show. Here's a few characters from the first episode. Nothing that interesting, but hopefully as the episodes air, I'll be able to post up some of the funnier stuff.

Sorry for the lack of new posts, folks. Lots of stuff going on around the Lambey household lately.

The biggest news I guess is that I moved from LA and migrated back to my homeland of Canada. It's been great to reconnect with old friends, eat some poutine, and enjoy the high taxes again. I'm happy to report that I'm doing designs on the second season of Jimmy Two Shoes for Disney XD.

In other news, Fanboy and Chum Chum finally premiered this past weekend on Nick and I'm proud to say it's netted some great ratings. Congrats to Mr. Robles and the rest of the crew on a job well done.

And in final news, the project I've been doing freelance work on for the last few months was announced over on Cartoon Brew yesterday.

Despite the glowing reviews and off sync clip, I have to say this shows been super fun to work on and can't wait to see it when it airs on HBO.

Whoops....long time, no update! Since I'm not allowed to post any of the super secret freelance I've been working on for the last few months, I figured I'd post up the last of my titlecards for Fanboy. If anyone's actually interested in seeing the ultra wide 1080p versions, they're posted over on Fred's flickr page.

On a further note, to those who have ordered prints and have not recieved them yet, I sincerely apologize. My super fancy expensive printer broke down and I had to sent it back for repairs...only to find out after much waiting that it's offically dead. I'm looking into other printing options, but if anyone doesn't want to wait, I'll definitely understand and happily return you money.

So yea.....titlecards. Hope you guys dig em.

Snake Eater

A few months back, I got the chance to do an illustration for Boy's Life magazine. This was very cool for me because many of my favorites illustrators from the 50's did work for the magazine.

In any case, the illustration was about a certain breed of squirrel that eats shed snake skin. Apparently the smell on it's breath and skin repel predators....mainly other snakes. Fun and educational!

Anyhow, my thanks to the folks at Boy's Life for fun assignment. Hope you guys enjoy!

A couple of posts ago, I showed you some of the final titlecards from Fanboy. As a little added behind the scenes, I figured it'd be fun to show some of the ideas that didn't make the cut for each card. Fanboy and Chum Chum intro

Here's something unexpected this morning. It seems that the intro to the show I've been working on has been posted over on the frederator blog.

Although there's no mention in the post, I've been doing character designs on the show for about a year now and it's been a blast. There's not many cartoony 3d shows out there (especially in tv), and hopefully this will help change some of that.

Golden Legacy: 65 Years of Golden Books

Much excitement and then sadness in the Lambey household tonight.

The excitement, you ask? I just found out that there is an exhibition going on right now that's showcasing original artwork from the last 65 years of Golden Books. Tons of incredible artwork from artists like Richard Scarry, J P Miller, Aurelius Battaglia, Mary Blair, and Gustaf Tenggren.

The sadness? The exhibition is located at the Enoch Pratt Free Library waaay out in Baltimore, Maryland. If you're extremely lucky enough to be in the area, then the show runs from March 02-May09, and the admission is...get this.... FREE!

If you're not one of the lucky few, then despair not. Swing by "Child at Art"'s Flickr page where she's been kind enough to post up nice high quality pics of the whole set.

New Year Resolutions...

It's a whole new year and with that, comes time to reflect on future aspirations. Here are 25 random things that are rolling around in my head...not necessarily only for just this year, but in years to come.

1) to make more so that I can work less. Wishful thinking?
2) to spend time studying and practising the techniques of the masterful artists I really enjoy.
3) to stop drinking energy drinks (I am a red bull/ yellow vitamin water addict)
4) to learn to tie a tie.
5) to stop spending all my spare time looking at art (books, blogs, dvds,prints, etc) and start creating some instead.
6) to create thoughtful gifts for my wife instead of buying them.
7) to get exercise other than moving around my arm.
8) to learn to sketch in a sketchbook instead of on post-it notes.
9) to really get to know people in my family as individuals instead of as just siblings/parents.
10) to start my own family.
11) Apply to a major feature studio.
12) Take a painting class so that I can learn to paint with real light and volume instead of graphic cheats.
13) Find a non-art related hobby.
14) Wear sunscreen at the beach. Ghosts don't tan, they just go lobstery red.
15) Recognize the positives of my work instead of only seeing the negatives.
16) to go for a walk with my wife each night after work. I always feel much better when I do.
17) to buy a motorcycle, learn to drive it and then go on a roadtrip from California to Nova Scotia.
18) Reconnect with friends lost over the many years.
19) Set aside one week of vacation and travel to an exotic destination each year.
20) Get a greencard.
21) Watch a movie for pure enjoyment instead of analysing it for it's faults.
22) Increase my word power.
23) To buy a good camera and take a photography course.
24) to create my own "art of" book.....and actually be proud of it.
25) to crush my enemies, see them driven before me, and hear the lamentation of the women (I might have stolen this one from Conan.)

...and some ruff monster concepts I did recently for an upcoming character on Fanboy. Seems fitting for Halloween. Why all the same shape? The challenge was to match the design to a silhouette of two character standing on each other's shoulders. Anyone want to make a guess which one made the cut?

Project Re-Design: A Juggernaut a day...

So what the hell is Project Re-Design? Is it some kinda lame reality show on NBC? Hells no!! K...lemme explain.

Recently, I was at swap meet and came across a stack of old comics titled "Who's Who", and "The Marvel Universe".

After leafing through a few, I remembered how many fun (and super lame) superheroes there are in the comic book universe. Then it dawned on me...how fun would it be to take these characters and re-imagine them. It'd make for good design practise, and it'd be a chance for me to rekindle my love for comics (long dormant since the Liefeld Image age). The challenge would be to do a design a day for a week, or until inspiration runs dry for that character.

So first up to the plate is the Juggernaut.

Some rejects from the ol' day job. The idea was to fill a classroom set with various educational posters. It was a ton of fun, but in the end, they were deemed a little too young and golden book-ish for a highschool classroom. Glad they can find a home here on the blog, instead of the trash bin.

The bane of every layout artist is the time consuming crowd scene. It usually involves taking a huge number of characters and jigsaw puzzling it together in such a way that it's pleasing to the eye.

Luckily we didn't have a lot of crowd scenes on Tigre, so when this scene from Ricky Garduno's board came across my desk, I eagerly accepted the challenge. This was the final episode of El Tigre, so everyone was going all out to make it special. Especially Ricky. He made sure to include every Tigre villian that had ever appeared on the show in one giant villian pile. I still love you, Ricky but my drawing paw wanted to stab you in the jaw. Hope I done you proud!

I Am 8-Bit Show....Thursday, Aug.14.

The fourth annual "I Am 8-Bit" show is coming up next thursday. With over a hundred artists partipating this year and a new bigger location, there's going to tons of great video game art to be seen.

Here's my meager submission this year. Nothing over exciting. It's kind of mish mash of Fleisher, a weird japanese add I saw last week, and a little bit of golden books.

Process:

1) Quick digital rough on the cintiq.

2) Digital Color Key 01. Tried out some funky japanese-y colors. It came out very cool but in the end, I tossed it. Mostly because I might not have been able to match it with the cel vinyl colors I have.

3) Color Key 02....this one was definitely do-able in cel vinyl, plus it had a nice simplified retro feel. Kind of like an old wartime poster.

4)Final Piece....measure 11 X 14. Not sure if I'm 100% happy with how it came out. In retrospect, I should have kept the yellow skin. Da well...what's done is done.

Oz Concepts

Awhile back I was contacted by a local CG company to do some concepts for a Wizard of Oz project they were developing. Time was short (as usual) so I had about a week to flesh out a lineup. Luckily I'm a big fan of the book, so the ideas came pretty quickly.

I didn't want to change things up too much. Just build on the original ideas. I love the idea of the tin man being this huge behometh robot. A kind protective spirit. With the lion, making him smaller felt right. Just to push the whole cowardly theme home. I pictured him going into a bezerker rage when he finally gains his courage. Like a tazmanian devil or rabid wolverine. The rest are pretty standard. Although I did made wicked witch young and sexy, just to create a direct contrast with Glinda, the white witch. Plus evil is sexy.

Things have been pretty busy lately. Finding free time to do some personal work is proving scarce. It's ironic but I think I was more productive in my personal work before I started working at Nick. Go figure!

Anyhow, till things let up, I figured I'd post up some odds and ends I have laying about on the hard drive. Some are rejects from the freelance pile, and others are morning cintiq scribbles. Hope you like em!

I was doing some spring cleaning in my office this weekend, and came across some hilariously awkward freelance designs that I had completely forgotten about. Probably for good reason.

Back in early 2005, I was approached by Wizards of the Coast to help develop a property called "The Irreverants". Having seen my website, they said they loved my style and I was perfect for their project. Excited by opportunity to get paid to do my thing, I immediately agreed and signed all the necessary contracts. With the ink still drying, they said "Fantastc!! Ok, here's what we had in mind......have you seen Teen Titans?"

DOH!!! So realizing that I was stuck, I decided I had to man up and give a try....even though that style was totally outside my comfort zone. The horrible results are below. My sincerest apologies to any of you Teen Titan's guys that see these. My intent was not to mock you.

Couldn't figure out what to do with this one. I like her crazy cat heels.

Added bonus.....more weird sketches.

So after failing miserably, I decided it was time to admit defeat and bring the project to a real pro, my badass designer buddy Robin Mitchell. I said "Please Mr.Mitchell...take this piece of stinky poo, sprinkle your great magic on it, and make it something glorious".

He patted me on the head, and said "It's ok, pitful mortal......where you have failed, I will rise like the mighty phoenix." And so, the rest is written in the analoges of his blog by blind canadian monks......here......here.......some here......and I think some may have fallen over here as well.

Hey folks! Sorry for the lack of posts recently. The last coupla' months have been a whirlwind of activity. Outside of freelance, I've been finishing up on El Tigre, helping out the talented folks on Mighty B (Check it out April 26th!), and starting my new job on Fanboy.

Many thanks to creator, Eric Robles for allowing me to join his mega talented crew on the show. Designing for the third dimension is going to be a lot different than flash/2d shows I've worked on so far, so I'm super excited about it. There's not a lot of stylized 3d shows out there right now, so it's exciting that we will be breaking some new ground.

With the Annie nominees being announced a few weeks ago, I guess it ok now to show what I submitted for the character design category. Better luck next year :)

These were for the half hour Halloween special titled "The Grave Escape". It was amazingly fun episode to work on. Everyone really went above and beyond to make it something special. Happy New Year, everyone!! Christmas was good. Lots of late sleeping , over-eating, and movie watching took place. My wife gave me lots of great presents, the best of all being this highly recommended little diddy:

Christmas is here again Pt.02

So a few months after my designs were turned in, the folks at Renegade asked if I'd be interested doing a series of illustrations for a montage piece that super talented artist, Scott O'Brien had storyboarded. Style wise, they were looking for something in the vien of the Mary Blair's book, "I Can Fly". Yikes....talk about setting the bar high!!

Well, being a huge fan of Mary Blair's work, I knew right away that that I can never reproduce the charm and beauty of her illustrations. After a brief moment of utter panic, I decided the best way to approach it, was to not try and copy her work.... but do my own version of it. The following series of illustrations are the ones that appear in the movie. Despite all the artistic flaws I see in them now, I still think they were sucessful in capturing the feeling of her work. Anyway...enough yakkity yak. Merry Christmas to you all, and hope you guys enjoy em!!

Wow...time flies! It was just summer the other day, and now it's Christmas. Craziness!! So to keep things in the Christmas spirit, I figured I'd post some artwork I did a few years ago.

Back in early 2005, I was approached by the folks over at Renegade Animation . They had a Christmas feature they working on, and they were kind enough to ask if I'd be interested in doing some design for them. I had a blast working with them on Puffy Ami Yumi, so I jumped at the opportunity.

The following is just a sampling of some of the sketches I did for them. A few people might remember seeing some of the rejected concepts being posted earlier on the blog. If so, sorry for the double post :)

I was lucky enough to get a sneak peek at the final product last year, and it came out AMAZING! A huge congrats to both Ashley Postlewaite and Darrell Van Critters for putting out a very special holiday movie.

As an additional note, I wanted to mention this year's big upset......the lack of production design in an animated television production nominees. In fact....there were none!

To say there there were absolutely NO shows this year that had art direction above average is a pretty harsh statement. My condolences to all those that submitted some really high quality work and got passed over. Hopefully next year's judging results will be a little more reasonable.

Titlecards are fun. Here's one I got to do awhile ago for the show. Jorge was nice let me run wild with an asian concept I wanted to try out. It's not as tapestry-ish as I had hoped, but it was really cool to try something outside my comfort zone.

I'd also like to give a big thanks to all those who replied to my last post . It's been really amazing to see so much support coming from fellow artists, and fans of the show. Hopefully Tigre will find a nice big audience on Nicktoons :)

Inspiring Artists: Fabrice Parme

A few years ago, my friend Ahmed introduced me to a french artist by the name of Fabrice Parme. Like many European artists, Fabrice is an expert cartoonist and storyteller. One of the biggest things that struck me about his work though, is his amazing sense of design. It's in his characters, backgrounds, props, and in his compositions.

He's got a very keen eye for shape, proportion, and pattern. Check out that awesome bed and toys.

I LOVE the plane in this shot. Very caricatured.

His cars are very fun as well. Especially the Number 08 car. Hilarious!

The first series of his I hunted down was "Le Roi Catastorphe" , which roughly translates into "The King catastrophe". There are nine books in the series, and just loaded with lots of fantastic artwork. Luckily enough I found a place back in Montreal, Canada where the price was very decent with the exchange (~$15 Canadian), and very fast shipping. Great store...check it out here.

So not to be a one trick pony, after Le Roi Catastrophe Fabrice decided to change gears a little and do a book called Venezia. The style's a little more comic bookish but still full of lush designs.

In my quest for even more Fabrice, I came across a very early graphic novel book he did called "Sang de Vampire". You can tell he's still struggling with finding his style, but the foundation is there. Still great character design sensibilities.

A great lineup of characters! Each one has a unique shape and is easily identifiable as that character if the lineup was all in silhouette.

So flash forward to the present! What's he been up to recently? Well at comicon, I came across his newest book, "Ovni".

In this book, he changes pace again with a sort "Where's Waldo" type layout. Each spread follows a little alien that crash lands on earths...over the course of human evolution. Caveman, Aztec, Roman..all the civilizations are in there.

So that about sums up my fascination with Fabrice Parme. Hope you guys liked it. If I get enough people interested, I'll see if I can put together another posts outlining another one of my favorite artists. Maybe some Jolly Roger Bradsfield, or Mel Crawford.

So my friend Robin told me at comicon this weekend that I've been severely slacking on my blog duties. The ironic thing is that I'M usually the one ripping on my friends about being slackers. Ha!

Apologies for the lack of updates lately. Work's been incredibly busy, and all extra time is being spent on plans for my wedding in July. Once everything winds down, I'll get back to posting my weird design experiments.

Sick of the Tigre stuff yet? I'll post up these few and then it's back to my personal stuff. I've got some 8 Bit stuff to show soon.

In the meantime, here's one of the shots from the opening of the show. It's a Gabe\Steve combo. Basically I drew the first pass, ruined it and Gabe fixed it with his magic. Luckily I get to make up for my suckiness with digi-paint.

A villain pan I did for "Sole of a Hero". Storyboard by Fred Gonzales.

And finally some of the gross out shots from "Night of the Living Guacamole". I made pretty colors on top of Fred Osmond's awesome drawings. Boulder also did a real cool job of animating the eyes and mouth on top of the images in flash.

So despite what I'm showing so far, very little of my time on the show is spent painting. I'd say about 90.345% of my time is spent on design and posing. One of the biggest benefits of my job is the people I get to train with. On one side, I have the great Gabe Swarr supervising my poses, and on the other, the amazing Jorge Gutierrez going over my designs. Lots of learnin' to be had each day!

Here's some stuff from the earlier episodes:

The idea for the horse came from Chuck Jones fat horse Bugs rides in "What's Opera, Doc". His legs were lengthened later to make the hooves more threatening.

Here's a giant rock monster from "Sole of a Hero". Unfortunately he got cut because of time.

One of Frida's dad's guard dogs from "Enter the Cuervo". I thought it came out pretty cool till I had to pose him out a lot.

And finally a few of the poses I actually liked. This was during the time we were switching from pencil and paper to drawing directly into flash with the cintiq. Very rusty babysteps.

Christmas time is here again! That means Rankin and Bass tv specials and Grinch cartoons. Maybe even some Riki Tiki Taki. Looking forward to two whole weeks of vacation time to unwind from the hollaballoo of work and freelance. It's been so crazy that I haven't even gotten a chance to do the annual christmas card. I'll use this oldie as a placeholder till I can replace it with something new. Many thanks to those who have emailed their awesome hand drawn cards. You make me feel lazy ;)

Hubba Bubba

A few months ago, I got to do some freelance for the amazing ,Chuck Gammage. For those of you that aren't familiar with his work, Chuck's been responsible for some of the most amazing commercials I've seen. Really fluid animation and great design. I've been a big fan ever since I was in college, so getting the chance to do some development for his Hubba Bubba spots was a huge thrill. To make things even more fun, he invited mi amigo, Joel Trussell and the mighty, Dave Sheldon to take a stab at it, so I had some huge competition.

In the end, the company decided to go with Dave Sheldon's designs....so a tip of the hat to you, Mr.Sheldon. Usually I'd feel kinda bummed, but hey....I got to run with the giants! Thanks again for the super fun assignment, Chuck. If you ever need a hand again, definitely give me a call!

In retrospect, I see lots of a little problems in here. Stiff posing, and twinned feet. I could have made Bubba's feet round to contast the sharpness of Hubba's. They also could definitely reflect more personality like Chuck's originals. At least the characters are a little more simplified. Better? Up for debate.

Same here. Design is fun, but I really mucked up the line of action on the coach (sorry, Uncle Phil). Definitely could use a little more punch on that megaphone too. Maybe some lines bursting out. Hubba's pose is super boring too. Yuck! The barbells are pretty though :)

I actually liked this one. Especially Hubba's shapes. Although I could have curved his hat back to push the action. Doh! Oh well...one day I'll get it right.

Prismacolor vs Sanford...

Anyone besides me notice the drop in quality of these pencils since they switched from Sanford to Prisma-color?

I love sketching in red, and doing cleanup on top in purple. I've always gotten a nice clean up going with this combo because the purple is very dark and shows up well over the red. Easy to erase too.

Long story short, I ran out of my purple sanfords last week so I ordered some new ones from Dick Blick. Well, to my horror while sketching, I soon discovered the difference. They're now a lighter color, and so waxy that they can barely draw on top of the red sketch. I've now got four boxes of these duds!! ARRGHH!!

What's the friggin deal? Every time I find some art product I love, they change it into some cheap ass version that I'll never buy again.

Oh and just to give you a bigger kick in the berries, the company brilliantly decided to put a wrap around sticker at the eraser end of the pencils. So when you finally work your way down to the end, you have no choice but to sharpen the pencil with the sticker on. Nice way to ruin a pencil sharpener, right? And god forbid you were to have the forethought to remove the sticker, because then it conveniantly leaves just enough adhesive behind to annoy the crap out of you while you draw. Thanks, Prismacolor!!

Sorry to rant over art supplies, but I just had to vent these fustrations to someone. If anyone knows of a place where on can buy the old pencils, gimme a shout, will ya!

Day of the Dead Pt.2

I've opened up a new blog called Lambey's Lot!

I get a lot of email asking if I ever thought of doing prints of some of my stuff. Well I gave it some thought and decided to give it a go. My new goal is to create a new piece each month, that I'll showcase here, and if anyone is interested in owning a copy, they can pop over to the new "Lambey's Lot" store.

Each illustration will be professionally printed on heavy 100% cotton rag archival stock and uses an 8-color printing process. Very similar to the quality of a giclee print. Any orders I recieve will be handled through payal, and then I'll ship them out in large, flat, unbendable envelopes. I hate rolled up posters :)

The two I just posted from the show are available for purchase on the new blog, but will be a limited run of 10. Any new illustrations after these, will mostly likely be an open edition though.

Oh and I know a few of you have expressed interest in some of my older work. If you have a paticular piece in mind, drop me an email. Provided that I have enough interest and a high rez copy, I'll put that illustration up for sale in the store as well.

Here's something I really don't do enough of, and that's pay tribute to some of my influences. This post's focus is on the great Mel Crawford.

Ever since discovering Mel's work over on Shane Gline's Cartoon Retro, I've been scouring Ebay for more. Some of his best work are golden books with the early Flintstones, Twinkles the Elelphant, and Rootie Kazootie. A few weeks back, I came across this rare beauty...a golden book calender. It's so gorgeous that I just had to scan it for everyone's enjoyment. Hope you all like it as much as I have!

I had totally forgotten about this thing, till I found it on one of my old image cds tonight. It's from back in the days of when I first discovered the master, Shag and was practicing how to use flash. It's a horrible attempt at his style...but a kinda funny idea. Hopefully Mr. Angle will forgive my vile transgression.

Burbankin'...

So I'm all settled into the new place in Burbank finally. The cross country trip from Chicago to Burbank was gorgeous. It was really cool to watch the landscape go from wide open farmland, to snow capped mountains, to rocky desert, and finally settle into palm trees. Other than one of our cats shredding two chairs in our hotel room in Vegas, the trip went super smooth. Bad kitty!!

Outside of that, the new job has been fantastic. It's great to be part of such a talented crew. Hopefully through the process of osmosis, some of that goodness will rub off on me while I'm there. Ha!

I just got my internet this weekend, so I can start working and posting up some new doodles again. I know...it's been too long.

I also gotta say thanks to everyone who replied in my last post. Your support mean a lot to this lil' "canuck-ian".

Big news!

Sorry for the lack of new posts lately. There's a good reason though...I swear. I've got a new job!

The end of May, I'll be starting as a character designer on Nickelodeon's new show, "El Tigre". Yeaayyyaaa!!!! It's a brand spankin' new cartoon from husband/wife super team, Jorge Gutierrez & Sandra Equihua, and outside of my lame ass, they've put together a really talented crew. I'm super excited at the opportunity to work with such kickass people. Thanks, Jorge!!

So over the next two weeks, I'm packing up, searching for movers, and driving from Chicago to sunny Burbank. If anyone has a recommendation for some great apartment finding services, please drop me an email.

Let the adventure begin!!
