Willy Wonkas

One of the recent assignments I had for Renegade was to do a redesign of Willy Wonka. Something not too nutty, but different. I only had a day to do it , but in the end it turned out to be a lot more fun than I expected.

After showing Miah the sketches, we started talking about these really crazy ideas, and figured it be hellacool if we took the concept and really have some fun with it. Did something much more pushed and zany than my original sketches. Anyhow weeks later, and I have a couple of scribbled out ideas so far but nothing as solid as Miah's fantastic new post over on his blog. A pox upon his super speedy drawing goodness!! In the meantime, here's some of those Renegade concepts.

Birfday!!

Alright....I have nothing to post as of late. I've been working like crazy on a lot of little freelance projects that I'd love to show, but cant yet because of NDA's. Sorry guys!

In the meantime here's an old sketch I did for my pal, Mr. Guzman. Javi's got more raw talent in his little pinky finger, than I have in my whole body. I hate him! Check his blog and be dazzled!

My sincerest apologies to John Hoffman for butchering his Non sensical rapper stylings, which I borrowed majorly for this card ;)

Talkey McChatsworth returns.......the color key!

Every image I do is done in four passes. Stage 1-rough pencils, stage 2-flash cleanup, stage 3-color tweaking, and finally stage 4-texturing in photoshop.

Suprisingly enough...the stage that takes the longest for me is color. I could spend hours just doing variations. It's both a fun and fustrating at the same time. It probably stems from the fact that I dont really know what the hell I'm doing.

So in an attempt save time and keep my sanity, I've tried doing to do quick 2-3 minute color thumbnails. Here's an example from of a layout I was recently working on. Special thanks to Mr.Sean Scott for the permission to post ;)
