Puffy Ami Yumi Crew Blog

Another cool blog has popped up! The super talented crew over at Renegade just started a blog showcasing some of the art from the show Puffy Ami Yumi. Loads of great layouts, designs, and storyboards. Looking forward to seeing what they're going to post up next.

Many thanks to Scott O'Brien for the tip!

Another oldie...

Pencils by the Jill Friemark , colors by me. No special reason behind this, just a fun little exercise in coloring one of her characters.

In other news, John K now has a blog. Some great little tidbits on caricature up there. The man's a fountain of knowledge so I'm looking forward to hearing his thoughts. I was a little disappointed in reading his opinions on digital painting. Painter is by far a superior tool...it's just too damn complicated. Photoshop used to be fairly limited when it came to brush selections (hate airbrushes!!), but ever since v.7 and CS, there's been a huge amount of textured brushes. More importantly, you can create your own! Pretty much anything you can scan in, can be turned into a brush of some kind. I'm thinking over the next couple of years, there's going to be a lot of great advances in photoshop brush techniques. Now if I could just figure out how to paint like my idol, Bill Wray.

Nate Pacheco and Craig Kellman

The multi-talented Nate Pacheco has posted some gorgeous Craig Kellman drawings over on his blog. He and some of his friends got together and pitched some new designs to Kelloggs to re-introduce Tony the Tiger on his 50th birthday. Unfortunately Kelloggs passed on the idea. It's a damn shame because they put together some beautiful concepts.

More Starwars obsession

My apologies for the lack of color posts lately. I've been so busy with freelance in the last few months that I havent able to draw anything for myself. Hopefully I will soon because I really miss it.

In the meantime here are a bunch of oldies from my starwars obsession days. It's kind of interesting to see these now. I can see a little progression in my work which is encouraging. Drawing jedis and siths is super fun, and definitely something I'd like to take a crack at sometime again.

Some goofy ones. Me as a sith in the hood...Darth Beak!

Silly work doodles

One of the best things about working with other artists is the crazy drawings you do of each other. Here's a quick one I did a few months back of my buddies, Don and Robin. I think this was right after episode 3 hit theatres, hence the starwars reference. That and Don has this odd wookie fetish. Gronkkk!!

Here's another one from a lunch conversation. For some strange reason, Don said when he was a kid he always thought Ronald MacDonald was actually Boy George under all that makeup. Maybe he's right!
